Immediate Update Required: Apple Releases macOS Sonoma 14.2.1, Urging Users to Upgrade
If you have a compatible Mac, you should update your system to the latest macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 update as soon as possible. That’s because Apple has released a new update that includes bug fixes and, more importantly, a security patch that fixes the vulnerability.
“This update contains important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users,” Apple says.
Apple’s release notes mention that the patched vulnerability could accidentally cause a user to share the wrong content when sharing their screen.
Now with the latest update this problem is solved. Apple says: “A session rendering issue was resolved with improved session tracking.” The related vulnerability is identified as CVE-2023-42940: Craig Hockenberry.
macOS 14.2.1: How to get this update
On your supported Mac (all models support macOS Sonoma), go to System Preferences. Next, go to General > Software Update. Here you should see the update available under Updates. Tap Update Now to start installing the update. The system prompts you to accept some conditions and ask for the system password. Type these and then it should start loading.
This is an iterative update and does not bring any major features to macOS. However, it’s worth noting that macOS Sonoma 14.2 introduced several new features, including iMessage Contact Key verification. This allows “users to further confirm that they’re only sending messages to the people” they want, and also introduced a better autofill user experience.
